Spidra reads Crunchbase News (news.crunchbase.com), the part of Crunchbase anyone can open without an account. That covers the Unicorn Board, the Emerging Unicorn Board, every article, and the weekly roundup of the biggest funding rounds. Send a link with "output": "json" and each one costs 1 credit. Company, people, funding round and search pages on www.crunchbase.com aren’t available. Crunchbase blocks automated visits to them, so those links fail and you aren’t charged.

Example

Filter the Unicorn Board by country, continent or investor:
The item’s result, shortened to one company:
rank is the company’s place on the whole board, so with a filter on, the first row isn’t number 1. boardCount is the size of the whole board and count is how many rows matched. The result also has the board’s chart data: companies by country, industry and founding year, funding by year, and the investors with the most deals.

The week’s biggest rounds

Each week Crunchbase News lists the ten biggest funding rounds. A roundup article comes back with its deals already parsed, and weeks collects several roundups at once:
The first deal, shortened:
roundType and valuationUsd are null when the article doesn’t say them.

Credits

Each link is 1 credit, including a weeks link. A link that can’t be read is free: a page that doesn’t exist, a list with no articles, or a www.crunchbase.com page.

Limits

  • Company profiles, people, funding rounds, acquisitions, hubs, search and anything behind a Crunchbase sign-in aren’t available.
  • The Megadeals and Billion-Dollar Exits boards load their tables from another site’s embed. Spidra scrapes them like any other page, so they don’t come back as rows.
  • The crunchbaseUrl on each row is a link you can open in a browser. Spidra can’t read it.

Templates

Templates cover the main Crunchbase jobs: unicorn companies and their valuations, the biggest startup funding rounds each week, and Crunchbase News articles.
Check Crunchbase’s terms before you collect data from it. You’re responsible for how you use what you collect.
